Frank Watson is one of our local artists and specialises in casting sculptures in bronze.
He has owned and managed both the Art Work Studios and Monument fine art foundries in Auckland.
The early work experiences gave him the appreciation of New Zealand’s biological and geological treasures. With the ability to cast and work with bronze, silver and a variety of other materials, he has the opportunity to create works which celebrate the wonderful forms and textures in our country.
The ability to cast and work with bronze, silver and a variety of other materials gave him the opportunity to create works which celebrate the wonderful forms and textures in our country.
Spending 25 years in large commercial foundries where much of the sculpture was large and heavy (as is fitting for outdoor works), he now delights in making sculpture which not only has some form of narrative behind it but also is light and delicate and seemingly unexpected of bronze.
Frank has developed his sculpture to create what could be called photographs in bronze.
Using techniques he has developed himself, his sculptures freeze a moment of time so it becomes something to caress and fondle. Above all, a permanent narrative to admire and, hopefully, give pleasure for centuries to come.
